Not so well

This year i've tried to work at using mediums I normally don't use that I may not be so great at. That way I can see which mediums work for me and which don't. Then I can work on improving my work. It didn't work out as well as planned; I don't know what I like to do yet, but I enjoy photography and pastels and watercolors. I've also learned how to think more in depth about my projects and how I can connect them together to fit into my concentration. Lastly, I learned that I enjoy guidelines a lot more than I use to think. I can't think of ideas sometimes without a little push.

I really need to work on my thought process of coming up with projects. I don't like to sketch them out beforehand, so then I end up wanting to change everything about my projects. I also need to manage my time better.

I hope that in 3 years i'll still be at school, and still wanting to do art. I want learn a lot in college and can improve upon my art.

This class has made me rethink about how serious art can get. Between the AP exams, art shows, and managing time for all of it, I think I have a better understanding of how college art classes might be. Portfolio also helped me get a start on finding what I really like to do with art, even if i'm still working on getting a solid idea of what I want to do.

Free Blog and Such

Thanks to the AP portfolios we saw...i feel like crap.

I haven't been able to do any projects for like the past month. I can't come up with ANYTHING.

So out of boredom and anger I simply typed in "Art" in the good image search. Whilst scrolling through the thousands of photos I came across a very interesting photo:

Ok..so it's not that interesting, but the caption underneath said "Amazing Pencil Art" so I decided to investigate anyways. I ended up finding a REALLY amazing Artist named Dalton Ghetti. Ghetti is a 49 year old artist from Bridgeport. He's spent 25 years carving tiny sculptures out of the lead of used pencils using a razor blade, sewing needles, and a sculpting knife to create really amazing works of art that can take from a few months, to a few years to complete:

While I could never create any of these amazing works, Ghetti's work is really inspiring, and definately put me in a better mood. I think what I like most about his micro sculptures is that he never has sold them, he only gives them to friends as gifts. It's really great to see artists who aren't in it for the money and that he spends months or even years on sculptures just for the fun of seeing a smile on a friend's face.

Oo-De-Lally

I am in a funk.

An art funk, to be exact.

I cannot seem to finish (or even start) any projects.

It's not that I don't have ideas, I have a ton of them.

I have a bajillion ideas I want to use.

I just can't get them down on paper the right way.

And I end up throwing everything away.

I've been in a funk for a few weeks.

It's really getting stressful because I can't get anything done.

I want to, I'm just so uninspired.

HELP!

Show Season

Art shows are all about showing off your talent and work, so I guess that makes me kind of nervous. Like, if I don't get into any shows than it means I don't have talent? I think thats what makes me the most worried because if I don't succeed at doing something I was previously very confident about, then I just feel like crap afterwards. The thing I do like about show season is seeing artists' work from all over central Illinois. Seeing other students' art gets me really inspired. It's interesting to see new techniques and art forms created by other people.

If I had to choose my top pieces, I think they would be my Chiaroscuro, Word art picture, or my self portrait. I think they would do the best because they convey more emotion and meaning than some of my other work, but that's just my opinion of my own work. I'd want to hear what other people thought my best work was.

I don't believe any of my pieces are better or worse than anyone else's in class, because art is different for everyone. No one's art will ever look the exact same as another person's, so it's almost impossible to compare someone like a cartoonist and a watercolor painter and decide whose work is better. I just doesn't work.

I Don't know what to blog about

Sooo..I guess i'll just blog about nothin in particular. Probably about college.

I applied to Webster University in the summer, and got accepted into the school (yay). Now I just have to get accepted into the art program. I leave thursday afternoon with Bre for our reviews on friday morning. I've been working hard this year (kind of), but couldn't ever stick to one idea for a concentration or have a piece that I was fully happy with. And now, i'm super worried I won't get into the art program. Like REALLY worried to the point of irrational fear. It's kind of crazy, but I get really worked up over important things like this to the point of being terrified. And it shouldn't be a big deal that it's just another college, but i'm just weird like that and it's pretty much the only college I want to go to. If I don't get in, i'm stuck at ICC for a year, which I frankly don't want. I keep telling myself that it'll be fine, and that I have some good pieces but then I just start bugging out about things I should have maybe done like have less photographs, or more sketches, or more conceptual pieces.

I don't know how i'll do, and I know i'm being completely paranoid, but i'm hoping that I on't end up having terrible work annd not get in.

Soo ya.

Umm..Don't Be Stupid.

Am I just missing something?? I don't see these as controversial at all. I think they're just very innovative and creative. The Picasso piece and Gustave Klimt portrait don't seem controversial at all. They just look like ordinary pieces of art to me. We've all seen nude paintings before and so what if it doesn't look finished? No one said you HAD to like it. I just don't see what the big deal is.

I would definitely buy that shark piece, it's pretty freaking fantastic. People are just too sensitive and have to find things to complain about.

Althoughhhh...I do think that the last artist is a little awkward, but it's art, it's ok for it to be weird. And just because He mass prodces his art doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Salvador Dali mass produced his signature and sold it to people but no one really complains about him. Honestly people let's grow up.

New semester, Same Ol' Bloggin

1. I have 9 breadth pieces, and only 5 concentration pieces :(

2. I need to work managing my time and brainstorming project ideas. I'm terrible at those 2

3. My favorite time in portfolio was the beginning of the year, because I was caught up on everything and wasn't losing sleep and sanity yet.

4. I learned that I don't really have much of a concentration, because I don't like focusing on just one topic. I like to just do whatever I feel like doing, so I need to work a lot on my concentration this semester

5. I usually just have to be told enough times to do something o get me to do it. Also helping with ideas doesn't hurt. Probably a good idea not to be so lenient, because then I fall even further behind..

Last Blog? I Hope So.

Things I wish I would've done:

1. Not procrastinated
2. Slept more.
3. Worked on inspiring myself
4. Relaxed more. I don'w work well when i'm stressed out
5. Motivated myself
6. Opted for a new student teacher (she was no help and left me uninspired).

My Goals are pretty much to do all the things I wish I would've done this semester. And to make more time for myself.

I think the piece i'm most proud of is my self-portrait. It's not real interesting and doesn't have any real art aspects to it like value, depth, etc. It's my favorite because it means something to me. A lot of my art is based on subjects I like, but this one is more personal and meaningful to me. :)
